Lui begins Mad Monday a day early

In the lead up to the biggest event on the rugby league calendar the last thing the NRL wanted was another scandal. Two traditional Sydney-based clubs will take on each other this Sunday in one of the most anticipated grand finals in years, however today this event was overshadowed by another off-field incident, this time by Wests Tigers halfback Robert Lui.

The 20-year-old is alleged to have assaulted his pregnant girlfriend in the early hours of Sunday morning, after the Tigers were knocked out of the finals by St George.

He has been charged with nine offences and granted bail yesterday after appearing in Burwood Local Court. The charges include assault occasioning actual bodily harm, detain person with intent to obtain advantage and choke with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The club has stood Lui down from all duties until the matter is resolved.

Is David Beckham playing away from home?

The latest soccer sex scandal hit this week and is alleged to include one of the world’s most popular and iconic sports stars of all time. In an article released by the American In Touch magazine, a prostitute named Irma Nici has claimed to have had a number of sexual relations with none other than David Beckham. However Beckham adamantly denies the claims and is preparing to sue the prostitute for libel, stating that her allegations are completely false and that the paper printed the story without a shred of evidence. Miss Nici’s story has cast unwanted negative media on the England soccer teams Trinidad tour which is meant to bolster the Pomme's 2018 soccer world cup bid.

When a footballer puts his foot in it

Terry sitting with Perroncel and Bridge
at a football game in  2007
So by now, everyone has heard about the many indiscretions of the big sporting stars like Tiger Woods and Wayne Rooney, but one of the major controversies that rocked the England Football Team right before the World Cup 2010 involved captain John Terry. Discovered by the Daily Mail of the UK in January 2010, Terry had started an affair with French Model Vanessa Perroncel,  but that wasn't the worst of it. Perroncel was the girlfriend of England defender and team-mate Wayne Bridge and within months of starting the affair, Terry paid for an abortion. It is also well known that the model and Terry's wife, Toni were good friends. although now, this relationship is seen to be tense, with Toni telling Vanessa "Call yourself a friend? What sort of friend sleeps with their mate's husband?'
This isn't the first nor will it be the last scandal that will come to light, why can't footballers keep it in their pants?

“I Plead Not Guilty, Your Honour” - Brett Stewart

Brett Stewart will fight for his innocence in court this week, as sexual assault allegations run high. It is alleged Stewart indecently assaulted a 17 Year old girl outside his manly townhouse in march last year, after the Sea Eagles season launch. The girls father has claimed that Stewart's reply was ''No, bro, I didn't touch your daughter, bro''. Neighbours who heard the noise outside swiftly called police and gave evidence in court that Stewart's replies were more along the line of ''Let's just go inside and chat about it.'' The NRL has dropped Stewart as the ‘face of the game’ due to the current situation unfolding.  Sea Eagles, performance analyst has gone to great lengths in court describing Stewart as a man who would never disrespect a woman, and the allegations were untrue and unjust. Whether or not Stewart is guilty police say there is no DNA evidence supporting the claims. The girls father at the head of the court hearing has admitted he spent time in prison for deceptive and dishonesty. The trial follows on to Monday.

Impossible is nothing - For NRL stars

Rugby League is known amongst its fans to be one of the toughest sports on the planet. The players are also known to be among the stupidest. In the past five years it has been rare to go a week without hearing of a player embarrassing themselves off the field. Open the back of any newspaper and you would be forgiven for mistaking it for a gossip magazine. In the past there have been charges and claims of drug abuse, rape allegations, drink driving, assault, public urination, racial slurs, and defecating in a hotels corridor.

Alone in the past month you will have heard of betting scandals, players in court fighting charges of assault and just last week a player being arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour

The most recent incident involves Cowboys, Queensland and Australian star Jonathon Thurston who was last week arrested in Brisbane and charged with public nuisance. It is understood Thurston was asked to leave the Treasury Casino around 3.30am after disturbing patrons before police were called at around 4.15 am to the streets outside the casino due to a disturbance.

The North Queensland captain has since apologised for the incident and stated that he was deeply embarrassed.

120 women in Tiger's bed!

Tiger Woods is probably the most successful and recognisable golfer in the world! Not only is he a household name but he is also one of the richest sportsmen of all time, with a personal wealth rumoured to be over one billion dollars.
However it seems that all of that is not enough for Tiger, who has admitted to cheating on his wife with at least 120 women over the last five years of their marriage! His scandalous behaviour was uncovered and his string of mistresses wasted no time in coming forwards,  including the couples college age neighbour, a porn star, a playboy model, a hooker, an ex porn star and a waitress.  Once his secret was out Woods defended himself by blaming sex addiction as the cause of all his infidelities and promptly booked himself into rehab for his addiction.
On the 23rd of August 2010 Woods was officially divorced from his wife and former model Elin Nordegren in reportedly the most expensive celebrity divorce settlement ever which is rumoured to be between 100 and 840 million dollars.
I guess all his money didn’t help him to see the woods for the trees.

Scandalous reasoning and design!!!

As a group we initially decided to write our blog about sports, focusing mainly on the English Soccer Premier League, the NBA and the NRL. However after much discussion we realised that was just too boring a subject and so we decided to spice it up and focus on the scandalous behaviour of our beloved sporting icons instead.
Once the topic was set the design was easy, we all liked the idea of mimicking the style of a newspaper, and especially the style of the tacky tabloid press. Using the English paper “The Sun” as our inspiration we modelled the layout of the page with a banner showing the blog name across the top and a central column with stories accompanied by pictures below just as on the front page of a newspaper. However we decided not to use the column layout of a newspaper as our research of other blogs revealed that this was not effective blog design.
Our logo is simple but hopefully effective, as the words sporting scandal circle the globe just as the news of our sporting icons mishaps do on a daily basis. Using red as the main colour of our blog is meant to indicate danger and naughtiness, which we think is fitting for the content of our stories.

Wayne Rooney deserves the penalty bootout

Over well publicised indiscretions, Wayne Rooney was left out of the Manchester United squad who played Everton on the weekend. Having cheated on his wife, last year whilst she was pregnant with his son, he let her know via text message that the prostitute is coming forward, claiming to have had 7 sexual encounters. In telling her via text, shows that the "family-orientated" footballer was a coward. The footballer was also reported to have said "it was no big deal". Why is it that footballers seem to never have enough?
